Economic Events: January 11, 2022

In Asia/Pacific, the following are scheduled for release: Chinese new yuan loans, Australian goods & services trade, Australian retail sales, Chinese CPI. Ad Chinese PPI. In Europe, the Italian retail sales report is on tap. In North America, Fed Chair Jerome Powell will speak and the US NFIB business sentiment report is due.

The data calendar is light on Tuesday.

In Europe, Italian retail sales are forecast to have risen 0.6 percent on the month in November after a 0.1 percent increase in October.

In the US, the optimism index for small businesses, which has been soft most of the year, is expected to show a slight gain to 98.8 in December after a marginal 2 tenths rise to 98.4 in November.

Among Fed talk, Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Esther George will speak on the economic and monetary policy outlook at a Central Exchange in-person event at 0930 EST.

At 1000 EST, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is scheduled to testify before a Senate Banking Committee hearing to consider the renomination to chair the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
